They lived in Taney County, Missouri, then, about 1860, moved to Newton County, Arkansas. William was pro-Union and enlisted in the 3rd Arkansas Cavalry (Union Army) in 1862. He caught a fever and died in mid-October 1862 near Springfield, Missouri, while in the Union Army. His burial site is not known.
