Rebecca June Orvis Fifield, June 3, 1935-January 8, 2023

On January 8, 2023, Rebecca June Orvis Fifield, 87, of Middlebury, died surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Burlington, Vermont to Sherman Orvis and Irene Atkins Orvis, she grew up in South Starksboro, Vermont. After high school, she attended the University of Vermont and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education; following graduation, she taught for one year in Shoreham Vermont. In August of 1957 she married Joel Fifield, and then settled into the farmhouse on the Border Acres Farm in Middlebury, where they raised five children.
Her life was dedicated to family, children in 4H and church school. She carried out the accounting and assisted her husband on their dairy farm, a showpiece just outside Middlebury, Vermont where he rebuilt every building on the farm. Among her many activities was 4H leader for 45 years, and Downer 4H trustee, member of the UVM Extension Homemakers, and a county Extension Advisory Board member, and member of the Christian Women's Club. She directed and taught in church school at the Congregational Church of Middlebury, as well as serving on the Pastoral Care Committee and as President of the Women's Fellowship there.
Rebecca is survived by her sister, five children, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great- grandchildren. Her loving husband Joel Fifield, her parents and two siblings, Earlene Wheeler and Eugene Orvis, predeceased her.
