Parents: William Guy and Frances (Wagner) Thayer. Husband of Betty Jo (Carlson) Thayer (1924 - 2003).

Bob grew up in Odebolt, graduating from Odebolt High School in 1942. He served two years in the United States Navy during World War II.

On October 27, 1946, Bob was united in marriage to Betty Jo Carlson in Odebolt, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm north of Odebolt, where Bob farmed for many years. Bob retired in 1989. In 1998, he and Betty Jo made their home in Wall Lake, where they became faithful members of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Bob sang with the Happiness Express Barbershop Chorus for over 30 years and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a passionate cribbage player who also enjoyed visiting with his many friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

Robert D. Thayer, age 81, of Wall Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, August 21, 2005, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2005, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Carl Lee will officiate the service, with inurnment to follow in the Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt, Iowa. Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.

Survivors include three children, Steve (Patricia) Thayer of DeWitt, Sue Thayer of Leavenworth, KS, and Sandi (Brian) Wagner of Carroll; three grandchildren, Erin Thayer, Tami Wagner, and Chad Wagner; and a brother, Duane (Betty) Thayer of Geneva, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty Jo in 2003; and a brother, Lyle Thayer.
