John was a son of John and Mary (McCabe) Malone, who survived him, and with whom his remains share a cemetery plot.

OBITUARY: Beaver Dam Argus, Thursday, January 31, 1895, page 3.

DIED - MALONE - At Jacksonville, Illinois, Saturday evening, Jan. 26, 1895, of mental derangement, Mr. John J. Malone, in his 37th year.

Mr. Malone was born in this city and always considered this his home until about two years ago when he went to the Cherokee strip, now Oklahoma, and took up a claim at Perry. Some years previous to that time he had been engaged at railroading and was very severely injured, which laid him up for a long time and from which he had not fully recovered. He visited his parents in this city a few months, going from here to Perry last spring. About the 18th of this month he was taken ill with brain fever or something similar, which caused a derangemant of his mind. His brother-in-law, J. J. Baskfield went there on Tuesday following and found him suffering severely from the trouble and had him removed to a private asylum at Jacksonville, Ill., arriving there Friday p.m. Jan. 25. He only survived the journey a little over one day. Jack, as he was familiarly called, was of a social disposition and always had a pleasant greeting for his acquaintances, all of whom were his friends, and the entire community will extend sympathy to the bereaved parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Malone, his five sisters, five brothers and many other relatives.

His remains were brought to this city and the funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, [sic] 1895, from St. Patrick's church, and was very largely attended.
