Roddy Lee Carter was born September 1, 1947 to Jack Carroll Carter, Sr & JoDell (Pace) Carter at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. At the age of 2 years he accompanied his mother to Okinawa to join his father who was in the military. Rod learned to play guitar at an early age and enjoyed playing and singing. He was lead singer in a band at East Central High School, Atkins, Texas. In 1965 JoDell moved the five children to Harper, Kansas. He was lead singer for the band Vendetta in the Harper County area.
Rod served in Vietnam as an Army Medic.
In 1972 Rod married Debbie Laing from Anthony, Kansas. To this union two children were born. They divorced in 1980.
Rod passed away on November 25, 2019, at Diversacare in Haysville, Kansas, after a battle with cancer.
Rod was predeceased by his father, Jack Carroll Carter Sr; his mother, JoDell (Pace) Carter; a half brother, Jesse Carroll Carter; three half sisters, Willie Faye (Carter) Medlock, Constance Levada (Carter) Case, and Maxine (Carter) Brown.
He is survived by his partner of 40 years, Attis Beadles Murrill; son, Jeremy Lee Carter and wife, Sherrie; daughter Rachael May (Carter) Porter and husband Marcus; sisters, Cathy (Carter) Short; Elaine (Carter) Thompson; Beckie (Carter) Williams; and brother Jack Carroll Carter Jr; four Granddaughters, Chelsea, Cydney, Mia and Olivia; and two great grandchildren; his Aunt Billie (Pace) Short and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
