Byrd L. Berman, 90, passed peacefully Saturday, March 2, 2019. Byrd was the son of Louis and Elfreda Berman of Moline, Illinois. He is survived by his loving wife and children: Izola Berman, his daughters Beverly, and Helen, his son, Starke, son-in law, Jeff Backerman and granddaughter, Lauren Backerman. Byrd will be missed dearly. Byrd was a consulting geologist. He graduated from Augustana Lutheran College and the University of Illinois with a Master’s. He also completed doctorate studies at Columbia University. Byrd specialized in mineral exploration, particularly gold and uranium, and his work took him around the world. He and Izola met in South Africa and were happily married for 64 years. Byrd also taught at Villanova University and Louisiana Tech University before moving to Denver in 1966 to join David S. Robertson & Associates. After he retired, Byrd’s many interests included playing chess, studying Spanish and reading. A memorial service will be held for Byrd at the Pavilion of Reflections at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery in Wheatridge on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
