Elizabeth T. Winchester (nee Aicher), 94, a resident of Hoffman Estates for 58 years was born on October 22, 1925 in Salzburg, Austria to Josef and Elizabeth (nee Gramer) and passed away peacefully November 18, 2019 in Elk Grove Village.

Elizabeth met her adoring husband Jack in Austria while he was serving in the Army during World War II. They were married in Salzburg July 19, 1947 and moved to South Carolina in 1948 where they stayed with his family. She would always say the Smokies and the Blue Ridge Mountains were hills compared to the mountains in Austria.

Elizabeth and Jack had a daughter Linda in August 1948. In 1949 the family moved to Chicago. Elizabeth enjoyed being able to walk and take a bus to all the shopping, shows, museums and beaches.

On February 7, 1956 Elizabeth became a naturalized American Citizen.

In 1961 she and Jack bought their home in Hoffman Estates where they lived her entire life. Her first month in Hoffman Estates, she cried all the time because it was impossible to catch a bus or walk anywhere. This led to Elizabeth to taking her “dreaded” driving lessons and finally earning a license and acquiring her first car.

She started working in Human Resources at United Airlines.

After 19 years in Hoffman Estates, she and Jack and Linda traveled to Salzburg to visit with her family. She enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed Hawaii. It became her favorite vacation location.

In 1977 she had her first grandchild Scott, who she loved to completely spoil. In 1982 she had a granddaughter Michelle, who always wanted to stay at her house when she was fighting with her mom.

In 2000 she had her first great grandson Kyle who she would do anything for and always looked forward to having him stay with her. Kyle recently became the owner of her prized possession—her car.

In 2005 she had her great grandson Colin and was blessed with her first great granddaughter Madilyn both of whom she loved to spoil.

Elizabeth is the beloved sister of Greti Duval, Zilli Konieseder, Artie Aicher and Trudi, the late Ernest Aicher, the late Seppi Aicher, the late Amalia Aicher, the late Marianne Aicher and the late Herbert Aicher. Fond aunt and dear friend to many. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
