Richard “Dick” Blackwelder passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the age of 84.
Dick was born the fifth of seven children on April 15, 1934 to parents Roy Gilbert Blackwelder and Eva Simms Blackwelder in Moultrie, Florida. Prior to marrying Olivia “Oli” Reyes on June 22, 1957, Dick served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years. After having served honorably, he traveled to Mexico where he met, fell in love with, and married Olivia Reyes. Dick went on to enlist into the United States Air Force, where he and Oli raised their 3 children. After 24 years of service in the Air Force, Dick retired in December of 1978. Dick and Oli have resided in Lutz, Florida since December of 1983. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Gilbert Blackwelder and Eva Simms Blackwelder; siblings Pauline Blackwelder Brown, Jeannette McMullian, Roy Blackwelder, Jr., Geneva McBride, and Agnes Coop. Also preceding him in death is his eldest daughter, Jeanette Lorraine “Jenny” Genoway. Left to honor Dick and remember him dearly is his wife of 61 years, Olivia “Oli” Reyes Blackwelder, his son Joseph Richard “Joe” Blackwelder, and daughter Olivia Ann “Annie” Kuczynski; his 8 grandchildren - Michelle Butler, Sarah Knabe (Dietrich), Steven Genoway (Stephanie), Christopher Genoway (Mandy), Samantha Garcia (Ryan), Cassandra Adams (Patrick), Daniel Kuczynski, and Nicholas Kuczynski; and 6 great-grandchildren - Courtney, Christian, George, Logan, Brennan, and Sophia; along with many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St. John’s Family Funeral Home, 385 SR 207, St. Augustine, Florida 32084. The viewing will be from 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 6:00 p.m. If we were to ask our Papa today how he’s doing, he would say, “WONDERFUL”!
