Virgie Cooper McMahan, 87, of Marion, died, Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at her residence. Born November 15, 1915, in Avery County, she was a daughter of the late George Cooper and Jane Turbifield Cooper. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry McMahan and two sons, John and Robert McMahan. Mrs. McMahan was a member of the Redeemed Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Joe McMahan, of Marion;
Three daughters, Kathy Dutton, of Marion,
Dozena Carroll, of Dysartsville and Margaret Cruz, of Marion;
Two brothers, Wess Cooper, of Marion and Bob Cooper, of RI;
Three sisters, Molly Penland, of Hillsboro, NC,
Mammie Rathburn, of Hickory and Irene Knight, of AL;
Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren and nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM, Friday, January 17, 2003, at the Redeemed Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverend Tommy Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Services at the Church.
Arrangements are in the care of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.
