Acea 'Ace' Rollins

Kenai resident Acea "Ace" Rollins died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Central Peninsula Hospital. He was 77.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Immanuel Baptist Church on Kalifornsky Beach Road in Kenai.

Mr. Rollins was born in Santa Rosa, Calif., to Cyrus and Ora Rollins. They moved to the area of Camptonville, where he attended grammar school. They then moved to Nevada City so he could go to Nevada City High School, where he graduated in 1948.

Mr. Rollins bought a logging truck and had a logging business. He joined the National Guard and went into the Army during the Korean War, serving as a mechanic on motorized Howitzers, until he was honorably discharged. He worked for Sierra County in Downieville, Calif., where he met his wife, Margaret, or "Margie." They were married on Feb. 22, 1958. They had a daughter, Mary, and lived in Goodyears Bar, Calif., until moving to Fort Yukon, Alaska.

Mr. Rollins loved hunting and fishing. In 1966, he visited his brother, the Rev. Don J. Rollins, a Baptist missionary in Fort Yukon, to hunt for and bag his first Dall sheep, deciding at that moment to move to Fort Yukon.

In January of 1967, he bought into a partnership, which included Fort Yukon Utilities, runway maintenance and construction, along with the oil and gas concession. In 1983, the partnership was sold. He then established a small motor repair and boat rental establishment in Ninilchik. After 26 years, feeling the need to be closer to the medical facility they sold their home and moved to Kenai.

Mr. Rollins was a lifetime member of the NRA, active in the Republican Party, a member of the American Legion and the Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cy Rollins and Ora Hansen; brother, Donald J. Rollins; and sister, Leora F. Ellis. [and granddaughter Shelby N. Thielemann]

He is survived by his wife, Margie; daughter, Mary Thielemann of Lake Worth, Fla.; three grandchildren of Anchorage; brother, Cyrus M. Rollins of Goodyears Bar; sister, May L. Bray of Grass Valley, Calif.; 14 nieces and nephews; and 29 grandnieces and -nephews.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
