Larry Don Hobbs March 15, 1948 - November 04, 2019
Larry Don Hobbs, 71 years old of Stratford, Oklahoma, beloved daddy, grandpa, pa, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was one of a kind with his quick wit and dry humor. He was a humble man, full of honor and integrity and could make a friend with just about anyone. Larry was born March 15, 1948 to Andrew and Emma Jean (Tarpley) Hobbs. He is preceded in death by his wife Janis Hobbs and his father, Andrew Hobbs.

Larry graduated from Lavaca High School in 1966 and continued to stay in touch with his classmates throughout his life and considered each of them as family. He looked forward to the annual alumni banquet to catch up with these friends. After high school, Larry enrolled in Westark Junior College, but in the early part of 1968 he was called to duty by the United States Army. He served in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969, where he received many medals and accommodations. He was honored to have been called to serve his country. After discharge from the military, Larry found it a little difficult to find his way in life. That changed when he went to work with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. There he made lifelong friendships and retired as a Captain. After retirement, Larry bought a tractor trailer and traveled the lower South and Southeastern United States until he "retired again". He declared retirement to be "The best job I ever had, should have done it first".

Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Dusty Wilkins and husband Dean of Barling and Amy Edwards and husband Dave of Stratford; two sons, Scotty Don Hobbs and wife Karen of Fort Smith and Tony Hobbs and wife Ronni of Stratford; his beloved mother, Emma Jean Hobbs of Lavaca; two sisters, Jacquie McKinney of Van Buren and Kathy Baker and husband Bill of Fort Smith; three brothers, Joe Hobbs of Lavaca, Ike Hobbs and wife Cheryl of Lavaca, and Richard Hobbs and wife Norma of Fort Smith; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, officiated by his nephew Jason Waymire. Graveside service and burial with Military Honors will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9th at McGee Cemetery in Stratford, Oklahoma officiated by Bro. Jack Cottrell. Services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Charleston.

Pallbearers are Scotty Don Hobbs, Tony Hobbs, Dean Wilkins, Joe Hobbs, Ike Hobbs, Richard Hobbs, Jimmie Shawn Barnes, Jesse Hobbs, Cody Hobbs, Larry Geuszka, Rick Shea, Steve Bradley and Mark Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be the Lavaca High School Class of 1966.

The family will visit with friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the funeral home in Charleston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House, 3324 South M Street, Fort Smith, AR 72903.
