IOWA CITY - Mary Alta Hochstedler was born August 11, 1921, in Mark Center, Ohio, the daughter of Valentine and Elizabeth (Bontrager) Yoder. On January 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Paul H. Hochstedler in LaGrange County Indiana. They farmed and did mission work in Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Belize, Arkansas, and Missouri before retiring to Kalona in 2008. Mary was a faithful member of the Salem Mennonite Church. Mary died on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at her home in rural Iowa City at the age of 98 years.

Mary is survived by a daughter Gloria Hochstedler of Kalona, and a sister Mildred Kauffman of Turner, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul in 2016, an infant sister Viola Yoder and a brother LeRoy Yoder.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Salem Mennonite Church in rural Keota. Burial will be in the Salem Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Salem Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Mary and her family.
