Virginia Mae Ideker, 96, of Lakewood, Colorado, went to be with our Lord on October 31, 2019.
Virginia Mae was born on March 13, 1923 in McPherson, Kansas, to Ernest and Josephine Sellberg. After her graduation from McPherson High School, she worked for the United States Civil Service in Denver, Colorado. Toward the end of World War II, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for 2 Admirals and a Marine Corps Brigadier General at the Pentagon and also volunteered at the USO. In 1946 she met her future husband, Eugene Harvey Ideker. They were married on June 13, 1948 in Richland, Washington and celebrated their 62nd Anniversary in 2010. While living in Richland their children, Virgene and Douglas, were born. In 1955 Gene and Virginia Mae relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they lived for 18 years. While in Albuquerque, she became an avid golfer, translated many books in braille for the blind and designed costumes for the Albuquerque Little Theater. In August 1968, Virginia Mae and Gene moved to Lakewood, Colorado.
Virginia Mae and Gene attended Holy Shepard Lutheran Church in Lakewood. She was a woman of deep Christian faith. Virginia Mae was active in the Order of Eastern Star, The Order of Amaranth, the Daughters of the Nile and Beta Sigma Phi.
Virginia Mae is preceded in death by her husband, her brother – Ernest Sellberg, Jr., and her sister-in-law – Zel Sellberg. She is survived by her daughter, Virgene Ideker-Mulligan; her son, Douglas Eugene Ideker; five grandchildren, Shane Church, Brandon Ideker, Heather Church, Tyler Ideker, and Daniel Church; 4 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Virginia’s name to Hope House of Colorado, 6475 Benton St. Bldg A, Arvada, CO 80003.
