Mr Montgomery was born in Fancy Creek in 1848 and was the son of Asa and Caroline Montgomery, early settlers of this county. His father came from Maryland and his mother from Kentucky. Lewis E. Montgomery was reared in this county and on Jan. 1, 1879 he married Miss Emma Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dixon Hall of Taylorville. Mr. Montgomery and wife resided in Montana for ten years, where he was engaged in the cattle business. He then returned to Sangamon county, where he engaged in farming and stock raising. For the last ten years he has been engaged in the real estate business. He has many friends in this city. He was a member of Second Presbyterian church.
Decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Montgomery, three sons, Wilbur S., of Kansas City, DeWitt and Carl of this city; one daughter, Miss Hazel Montgomery; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis M. Igo, of this city and Mrs. Clara M. Howell of Rochester.
The funeral arrangements will be made later. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
