Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Manchester Regiment on the 21 Oct 1891. Promoted to Lieutenant on 14 Dec 1894 and to Captain on 11 Mar 1899. Married Amy Christina Parker, daughter of Robert Gabbett Parker JP and Louise Elphinstone (Whittey) Parker, on 14 Jul 1898 at Killaloe Cathedral, County Clare, Ireland. Instructor with a Company of Gentlemen Cadets at theRoyal Military College, Sandhurst, from the 28 Jun 1907 to 22 Feb 1908. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment on 2 Feb 1908. Appointed Commanding Officer of the King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regimental Depot at Bowerham Barracks, Lancaster, Lancastershire, between 1911 and 1912. Promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel on 3 Sep 1914. With the outbreak of war he was appointed Commanding Officer of the 6th (Service) Battalion, King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment. Posted to the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli, disembarking July 1915. Posted to Egypt. Died while while serving on the Staff in Egypt aged 44 years. Buried in grave D. 243 of the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Cairo, El Qahira, Egypt (see Find a Grave Memorial 56081055). Also commemorated on the Camberley War Memorial.
