S. W. Asbury (Pete) was born March 9, 1843, in Fleming county, Kentucky. He lived there until six years old when the family moved to Sullivan county, Ind. He attended school at Shiloh and Mt. Pleasant schools. In 1862 he enlisted for service in the Civil war, in Company H. of the 85th Indiana Regiment, as a fifer in the drum corps. At the close of the war he began farming. On Sept. 21, 1871, he was married to Eunice Crist, daughter of Nicholas and Sarah Crist, and began housekeeping on a farm in Lewis township, near Jasonville. In 1890 they sold this farm and moved to Jackson township, Sullivan county, where they resided for twenty years. They now live in Coalmont. They have had seven children; Elizabeth, William, Walter, Eunice, Harvey, Jenny and Evelyn.
