*Lavina had died by the time of the 1900 census because Samuel 'Basaler' stated that he was a widower. She gave birth to Carl Chester in 1893, so Lavina died between those dates. Samuel then married Dorothy Hoover. Family trees give the date of death as October 1895 and one source stated that she was buried with her family in Salem Reformed (microfilm has been ordered to verify this- but the only other possible burial place would be where her husband was later buried- Shellytown).

Lavina was the daughter of Jacob Greaser of Germany (abt 1803-?) and Mary, also of Germany (abt 1812-?). Lavina was one of at least 9 children. Her parents had apparently died by 1860 and she was living with Joseph and Mary Andrews with several of her siblings. Five of Lavina's known siblings are linked to Jacob Greaser. In addition there is a Mary born in 1831 instead of Susan (abt 1832) and a Margaret born in 1846 instead of Rebecca. They may be the same daughters- Susan Mary and Rebecca Margaret perhaps. His wife's name was Mary on the 1850 census. Maybe her name was Mary Catherine because her findagrave memorial lists her as Catherine. In any case the mother was not with the children in 1860. Jacob had no son named Jacob and yet this Jacob is listed as Jacob, Sr. (Jacob, Jr. would have been on the 1850 or 1860 census). See list of Lavina's siblings below.

The children of Jacob & Mary Greaser (prob Grieser in Germany) on 1950 census:

1-Susan (abt 1832)
2-Catherine (abt 1834)
3-Elizabeth (abt 1836)
4-Barbara (abt 1839)
5-George (abt 1842)
6-Rebecca (abt 1846)
7-Nace (abt 1848) Agnes on next census

Children living with Joseph & May Andrews in 1860:
(Barbara 'Andrews' abt 1839- too old to be the Andrews daughter)
(Elizabeth 'Andrews' abt 1840- too old to be the Andrews daughter)
(Rebecca Greaser abt 1845)
(George Greaser abt 1842)
(Agnes Greaser abt 1847)
8-Sarah (abt 1852)
9-Levina (abt 1854)
