Born Oct. 10, 1914, in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of Walter Wilton and Sarah Rawlinson Jewks Peters. He was raised and educated in New Jersey. As a teenager, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps to help support his family during the Depression.
He and Dorothy Maxine Scheller were married Sept. 1, 1941, in North Platte, Neb.
He served in the Army Air Forces in World War II. After the war he continued his education in the Air Force Academy and Yale University.
During his career in the Air Force, Lt. Col. Peters held many positions, including chief of documentation. He supervised the filming and documentation of space flights in Cape Canaveral, Fla. During his military career he toured most of the world. After retiring from the Air Force, he moved to Carlton.
He belonged to St. John Catholic Church, Yamhill, and also attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey in Lafayette. He enjoyed photography and cooking.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Roberta Peters of McMinnville, Carol Orton of Yamhill and Charlene Peters of Hawaii; four sons, John Peters of Riverside, Calif., Steve Peters of Saratoga, Calif., Matt Peters of McMinnville and Mark Peters of Newberg; a brother, Walter Peters of Piedmont, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Peters, who was killed in World War II.
