The Bowling Green native was a former clerk in her family's store, the Simpson County Grocery, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany. Betty was a devoted wife and mother, an amazing cook, enjoyed playing the piano and loved old movies. She was also a devout Catholic.
She was a daughter of the late Henry Clay Simpson and Mary Settle Simpson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph William "Joe Bill" Dougherty; and a brother, Eldon Simpson.
Survivors include eight children who loved her very much, Joseph Michael and his wife, Becky, of Strongsville, Ohio, William Patrick and his wife, Chris, Edward Clay and his wife, Lisa, Carol Ann O'Bryan and her husband, Rick, David Alan and his wife, Debbie, all of New Albany, John Francis and his wife, Diane, of Louisville, and twins, Kevin Lee and his wife, Clare, of Crestwood and Katherine Sears of New Albany; a sister-in-law, Ruth Simpson of Bowling Green; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bowling Green.
