James R. Allen, age 77, of Prestonsburg, husband of Rita Goble Allen, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 in the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY. He was born January 24, 1942 in Risner, KY a son of the late Claude Clayton and Bertha Bradley Allen. He served the Floyd County public in many different capacities, including Floyd County attorney for four (4) years, Commonwealth's Attorney for twelve (12) years and District Judge for sixteen (16) years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three (3) daughters: Amy Allen Rose (Brent), Robyn Bingham (Carl) and Alison May all of Prestonsburg, KY; one (1) sister: Sonia B. Nunnery, Prestonsburg, KY and eight (8) grandchildren: Ethan Bingham, Anna Rose, Grant Bingham, Sydney May, Ryan Rose, Emma Rose, Kyle Rose and Mallory May.
In addition to his parents, James R. was preceded in death by two (2) brothers: Claude Allen Jr. and William G. Allen; two (2) sisters: Noma Jean Patton and Nola Slone.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday, October 28, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Allen First Baptist Church, with Jimmy Patton officiating. Burial will follow in the Guyles Allen Cemetery, Pyramid, KY and visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday at Hall Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until time of service Monday at the church.
