Mrs Patricia "Pat"Fordice,was the former First Lady,of Mississippi,1992 to 2000, and former wife of Governor Kirk Fordice.She was the daughter of Lloyd and Veo Owens.She had grace and charm and was the last of a true southern lady. She was loved by all of Mississippi.Her adventures include dining with Kings,swimming with dolphins and sky diving with the Golden Knights.In 2003,Mississippi led the nation by taking first place in the Keep America Beautiful competition. The Mississippi Department of Transportation sponsored"I'm Not Your Mama-Pick it up Mississippi,"campaign,starring First Lady Pat Fordice.She was presented the nation's top award,the Mrs.Lyndon B.Johnson National Award,Mrs Fordice was in Washington to receive the honor.If you ever saw one of those commercials on television you will never forget them she was great.In 2005 she was presented with the outstanding Mississippi Woman Award.She co-hosted a weekly television show on Mississippi Public Broadcasting-"Woman to Woman".She was Knighted"Dame of Grace"by the Russian Orthodox Order,for her humamanitarian efforts for St.Petersburg,Russia.She was included in Marqvis'Who's Who in the World in 2000 and in Cambridge Press's 1000 Great Americans in 2001,and Marquis'Who's Who of American Women in 2002.She received the Medal of Honor from the American DAR,the Presidential Service Award from President George W.Bush.In 1999,she was given a dual commendation by Mississippi's Senate and House of Representatives for her service as First Lady.In April of 2007,she was inducted as the first woman to the City of Memphis Schools' Hall of Fame.She lobbied congress for the expansion of Medicare coverage and for arthritis research. She was one of Mississippi's most beloved First Ladies and will be remembered as Mississippi's perfect representaeive. She will be missed. Mississippi loves you Mrs Fordice,our Eternal First Lady.
