A self-employed mason and builder died Sunday at Freehold Area Hospital. He was 56 and lived on Pond Road. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Abbate lived in Millstone Township most of his life before moving here nine years ago.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Monmouth Post 54, American Legion, here; Millstone Township Memorial Post 1553 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member of the Central Jersey Italian American Club, Jackson Township.
Mr. Abbate was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Allentown.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Menny; his mother, Anna Scalzo Abbate, Millstone Township; five brothers, Joseph N. Jackson Township; Ben L., Long Branch, Lawrence B., Manalapan Township, Charles G., Millstone Township, and Daniel Abate, Ewing Township, and a sister, Marie Hooper, Millstone Township.
The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, is in charge of arrangements.
