Jacob was the son of Jacob Shallenberger and Margaret Miller. He married Margaret Brookens on 15 October 1835 in Holmes Co, Ohio. They were the parents of Jane (10 October 1837 OH - 1913 MO), Mariah Maria (1838-1917 IA, Walter Sprague), Hester (1840), Elija (1842 OH - 1858), Rebecca (1843-1925 Wi, John Dolphin), Joseph Hanby (1845-1922 WI), Caroline (1848-1861 WI), George (1850), Franklin (1854), and William (1858-1960).

C.W. Butterfield's History 1881 Grant County, Wisconsin - page 1023 - Jacob Schallenberger, Sec 29 Glen Haven PO Cassville, owns 310 acres land, valued at $15 per acre. Born Switzerland in 1810, came to America in 1818 and located with his parents in PA. In 1849 he removed to this county and settled on his present farm. Married Margaret Brookens, a native of PA. They have 5 children: Jane, Maria, Hester, Rebecca, and Joseph, are members of the ME Church.
