Elizabeth June Reed Haggard

Elizabeth June Haggard was born on January 15, 1936 in Bonne Terre, MO to Thomas Buchanan Reed and Aline Estelle Barbey.

She went to meet her Lord on October 19, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

She graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1954. After graduation she married the love of her life Danny Haggard. After Danny was called to the ministry, she gave her all as a partner to support him in his calling.

She worked for many years as a secretary. After Danny started his ministry, she continued as a church secretary for 4 different churches. She also was the bookkeeper at the Johnson Public Library for 14 years. She directed choir and played the piano and organ at every church they served. For 32 years she taught piano lessons in her home.

As part of her ministry in the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ denomination, she taught Sunday School for 50 years, worked as a camp counselor and youth sponsor for 30 years. Her most important and passionate ministry was her leading the Women’s Bible Study Class for over 18 years at First Christian Church, Baxter Springs, KS.

She was involved in multiple organizations. She was Past President of Chariton Women’s Club in Chariton, IA, Past Matron of Eastern Star in Scott City, KS and sang at Grand Chapter in Topeka, KS during this time, and Past President of PEO, Chapter BT in Baxter Springs, KS.

June was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Rev. Danny E. Haggard, her son Rev. David E. Haggard. Her son-in-law, Charles (Buck) Sharp. Her granddaughter, Stacey (Haggard) Brewer and her husband David Brewer.

She is survived by her sister Betty Baker of Meridian, ID. Three children Jonathon Paul Haggard and wife Tralyn of Lutsen, MN, Anne E. Sharp of Baxter Springs, KS, Kristen H Shepard and her husband Jason of Riverton, KS and daughter-in-law Cheryl Haggard of Baxter Springs, KS.

Along with raising 4 children she helped raise one of her granddaughters Kara Alexander of Baxter Springs, KS. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 26, at the First Christian Church in Baxter Springs. Family will receive friends Friday, October 25, from 6-7 p.m. at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to the NewCovenant Ministries, which was started by her son, David and his wife Cheryl, in Kenya to help care for widows.
