Born in Waterloo March 18, 1934, he was the son of the late John and Bertha Davenport Gambrell. He retired from the US Navy after 25 years of service and attended New Beginning Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Murphy Ray Gambrell, Jr. of Waterloo and Michael John Gambrell of Lake City; daughter, Rhonda Childs of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Nathan Gambrell of Lake City, Courtney Childs and Rick Kennedy, both of Waterloo; and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery in Waterloo with the Rev. James Nix officiating.
