Alva L. (Al) Boyles May 27, 1927 - February 15, 2012 Al entered this world on May 27, 1927, in Chectotah, Oklahoma, one of eleven children born to James and Emma Boyles. He passed away peacefully on February 15, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Al proudly served his country both in the Air Force and the Army. After his military service he settled in California, where he worked in the oilfields and various other jobs before beginning a long career in the industrial laundry business. He later became a co-owner of Western Industrial Laundry. During his life he was very active in several organizations, including Bakersfield Masonic Lodge #224, Bakersfield Scottish Rite, Kern County Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters, Footprinters and the American Legion Post 682. He also enjoyed many hours of hunting and camping. Al is survived by his children, Kathy Herman (Richard), Charlie Boyles (Sharon) and Tim Boyles (Valerie), and their mother, Donna Boyles; grandchildren Mark Herman (Dianna), Erin Lencioni (Brandon), Chad Boyles, Ben Boyles, Brad Boyles and Brent Boyles; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Willie Tackett and Rebecca Teasley, one brother, Melvin Boyles and many nieces, nephews and friends. Al also leaves another person who has been special to him for many years, Pansy Turner and her family. Visitation will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23rd, followed by graveside services at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to Hoffmann Hospice, 8501 Brimhall Road, Bakersfield, CA 93312. www.bakersfield.com/obits
