Mrs. Drue Collins Johnson obituary - 1945

Mrs. Drue Collins Johnson, 76, died at her home in Wheatcroft at 7:20 last Thursday evening following a stroke suffered two weeks earlier.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Union county on Sept. 6, 1868 and came to Webster county at the age of seven with her parents, John Wickliffe and Kate Young Collins, both members of pioneer Union county families.
She was married on June 24, 1886 to Andrew Jackson Johnson, and in 1936 they observed their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Johnson died July 15, 1942.
Mrs. Johnson became a Christian in early life and carried her belief with her through her life, in her home and in her contacts with her family and friends.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. J.A. Williams and Mrs. Raymond Cherry of the Hopewell section, and Mrs. Jewel J. Duncan of Louisville; four sons, W.W., T.W., and V.L. Johnson of Clay, and Andrew Jackson Johnson of Evansville; three brothers, Dr. G.C. Collins, of Wheatcroft, Tom Collins of Marion, and Jerry Collins, near Clay; seven sisters, Mrs. A.J. Hill of Clay, Mrs. J.D. Wallace of Wheatcroft, Mrs. W.T. McGill of Woodriver, Ill., Mrs. Albert Hazel of Providence, Mrs. C.C. Brown of Pride, Mrs. C.E. Straight of Cassadoga, N.Y., and Mrs. J.W. Guess of Marion; twenty-seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Five grandsons are in service. They are First Sgt. Vernon L. Johnson, in the Philippines; Ens. W.A. Johnson, Pearl Harbor; Cpl. Denzil Murphy, Camp Crowder, Mo.; Wayne Johnson Music, Norfolk, Va.; and John N. Johnson AS, Durham, N.C. Another grandson, Cpl. James Alvin Williams was killed last May in an airplane crash in Sioux City, Ia.
The body was removed to Franklin Funeral Home in Clay, where it remained until time for the funeral which was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Clay First Baptist church, of which Mrs. Johnson was a member.
The Rev. E.G. Sisk of Little Zion and the Rev. J. Grady Hutchinson officiated.
Pallbearers were Charles Threlkeld, the Rev. Bob Wallace, Oscar Lofton, Harve Cowan, Henry Price, and Blue Brantley, all of Wheatcroft.
Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery, Clay.
