Raouf Boudjakdji (age 89) passed away peacefully on September 18, 2019 at his home in Los Angeles, California. He was surrounded by his family. He is survived by his children Sara E. Zink, Anissa Balson, Cherif Boudjakdji, and Samia Staehle, eight grandchildren, and his companion Mary K. Wulf.

Ambassador Boudjakdji was born in Blida, Algeria on April 4, 1930. In 1962 he became a member of the permanent mission of Algeria to the United Nations in New York City.

In 1964 he married Millicent Hearst (deceased 2002), a future Director of the Hearst Corporation. From 1965 to 1971 he served in Algeria as the head of the Department for International Organizations. In 1971 he was appointed Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, and in 1972 he received a concurrent appointment as Ambassador to the Holy See at the Vatican.

Ambassador Boudjakdji represented Algeria to the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization, and the World Meteorological Organization. In 1979 he was appointed Ambassador to India and Nepal until 1981. Following this posting, he retired to Los Angeles, CA and became an American citizen.
