David A. Mayer, 46, of 15 E. Chicago St., Kiel, died Friday morning, Jan. 9, 2004 of injuries sustaine in auto accident in Fond du Lac.
He was born Dec. 10, 1957 in Plymouth, son of Selma Awe Mayer and the late Carl Mayer. David was a 1976 graduate of Kiel High School. He continued his education at LTC, receiving an associate degree and graduated for Lakeland College with a bachelor’s degree.
On July 7, 1979, David Married Bonnie Retlich at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel.
He was employed at Stoelting, Inc., Kiel, for approximately 24 years, and has worked at Buechel Stone Inc., in Fond du Lac the past two years. He was also employed at Sears in Sheboygan.
David was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel where he served several terms on the church consistory, was a church elder and was a city councilman for a number of terms being instrumental in spearheading the Sheboygan River cleanup.
He enjoyed NASCAR, was a biking and running enthusiast, and was “Mr. Fix It” in the family. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, family and his many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, three children, Jennifer Mayer of Wauwatosa, Christopher Mayer and Ashley Mayer at home; his mother, Selma Mayer of Kiel; and seven brothers and sisters, Cindy Mayer of Kiel, Lola (Steve) Schmidt of Howards Grove, Kay (Scott) Schueffner of Pleasant Prairie, DuWayne Mayer and fiancée, Kay Bath of Lomira, Betty (Wayne) Seifert of Kiel, Judy (Bill) Lutz of Kiel, and Linda (Brian) Manz of Kiel. He is further survived by his father-in-law, Arlyn Retlich of Kiel; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Kim Retlich of Kiel, Kevin Retlich of Wauwatosa, and Brenda and Mike Schmitz of Howards Grove, many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl and his mother-in-law, Helen Retlich.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, with the Rev. Raymond C. Coombs officiating. Burial will take place in the Kiel City Cemetery.
