Irene M. Makarowski (nee Kaminsky), age 78, of Whiting, passed away Friday, November 2, 2001 at the Saint Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center, Hammond. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Ziggy; five children: John (Ursula) of Frankfort Square, IL, Steve, Stanley (Laura), Rosann and Andrew, all of Whiting; four grandchildren: Donna, Thomas, Stanley and Stephanie; sister, Genevieve (Elbert) Powers of Hobart; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her brother, Henry Kaminsky and four sisters, Mary Dodge, Ann Szymanski, Josephine Szymanski and Helen Vargo.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 5, 2001, 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S. officiating. Interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. Members of the parish, together with the St. John Prayer Group, will offer prayers at the funeral home on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Irene Makarowski was born on June 28, 1923 in Whiting, Indiana, to Stephen and Mary (Sechny) Kaminsky and was a lifelong resident. A member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association Br. #81.
