Johnnie was the son of Lawyer Farms and Charity Winslow Farms. He was educated in the Houston County School System and graduated from Perry High School in Perry, Georgia with the Class of 1983. During his Junior High and High School years he was well known as a talented football player, earning the nickname "Hacksaw 55". He attended Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia but a major injury ended his football career. He began employment with Kellwood Company in Perry, Georgia and stayed until the company closed down in 1996. He worked at Perdue Farms in Perry until his health forced him to retire in 2003.

He met Joyce Gilbert 1993. They were married on December 10, 1999. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters; Daisy Farms, Ozella Askew, Eura Watkins Powell and Mary Farms and 1 brother, Stanley Farms.

Wife: Joyce Gilbert Farms.
1 Daughter: Jasmine Farms.
4 Sons: Johnnie K. Farms Jr, Jaron Farms, Jacquez Farms and Jamaree Farms.
3 Brothers: Larry Farms, Charlie Farms and Timmie Farms.
2 Sisters: Linda McGarr and Elizabeth West.
Mother-In-Law: Ednool Gilbert Alford.
1 Aunt: Irma Winslow.
2 Uncles: Reuben Winslow and Jack Winslow.
3 Grandchildren: Mason Farms, Morgan Farms and Jayshon Farms.

Services were held Friday, October 11, 2019 at 1PM in the Sanctuary of Christ Lutheran Church in Perry, Georgia.
