Family members state that Judieth was born in Garnetsville, Meade County, Kentucky and was the daughter of John Anselm Jared and Hicksey J. Elliott.

From Judith's death certificate: Juda Ann Francis Dowell, born in Kentucky on June 9, 1836, died in Jackson Township, Livingston County, Missouri on February 7, 1923. Father, last name Jarrett, mother Jane Elliot, both born in Kentucky. Informant, Dave Dowell.

Judieth Jared is listed as the 2nd wife of John A. Dowell. They share the same tombstone.

A little different spelling of Jared was carried on when John and Judith's daughter Eva Barbara Dowell (1865-1915) who married William B. Barnes (1864-1912) had a daughter Neva Jarret Barnes.

Judieth and John Dowell had 8 children:

1. John James Dowell (1855-1930)
2. Albert McKay Dowell (1858-1945) Albert married Laura Lay. They had children Alexander Dowell, Leta Dowell, and Ivia Ensor Dowell. Albert and Laura and other family members are buried in Liberty Cemetery, in Adona, Perry County, Arkansas.
3. Clara Dowell
4. Eva Barbara Dowell (1865-1915) In 1884, Eva married William Burnis Barnes (1864-1912). They moved to Sedgwick, Ford and Reno Counties, Kansas. They had 9 children. Eva and William Barnes are buried at Kingsdown Cemetery, Ford County, Kansas.
5. David T. Dowell (1867-1947) Family note states that he never married. Burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Livingston County, Missouri.
6. Alexander B. Dowell, Born Jan. 7, 1870 in Meade County, Kentucky. Alexander left for the West and was never heard from again. A family mystery.
7. Calvin Sterritt Dowell
8. Arvin C. Dowell, (called Strauther) Born May 23, 1874 in Meade County, Kentucky. Arvin married Isabelle (Ida) Brassfield. Arvin is another family mystery. A family story is that Arvin was a bank president in Kansas. He disappeared during the Great Depression. Papers sent to his family when his wife was still alive contained no death date or place of death. In 1920 & 1930 Arvin, wife Ida and children can be found in the town of Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas. Ida (Brassfield) Dowell died in 1977 at the age of 97. She is buried in Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas with several of their children.
Update, January 2013. Missing for 80 years, great granddaughter Mary Thurston located Arvin C. Dowell in the 1940 Census. He was residing in Phoenix, Arizona. Arvin Dowell is buried in Greenwood Lawn Memory Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona. His grave is currently unmarked.
