Obituary
Jo Ann S. Walker, 76, of Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 7, 2012. She was born in Olive Hill, Kentucky to the late Parma Johnson Sparks and Charles Sparks.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Kathy Walker (Louie) Autrey of Lancaster, Kentucky and Carla Walker (Mason) Ballard of Nicholasville, Kentucky; three granddaughters, Kristi (stationed in Kuwait) and Jessica Totten, and Kelly Ballard; and two great grandchildren, Michael and Allie Totten, all of Nicholasville, Kentucky.
She is also survived by a sister, Janet (Walter) Kurth; niece, Lisa (Kurt) Zaspel; great niece Annelise Hughes; and great nephews, Judd Zaspel and Mark Kurth, all of Stillwater, Minnesota.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas H. Sparks.
Ann graduated from Northern Kentucky University and was awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She served professionally as a Vocational Evaluator and Counselor for persons with disabilities throughout her career in Lexington, Northern Kentucky, Ashland and Frankfort.
Ann was retired for over 10 years but continued an active and caring life. She participated in wellness activities and especially enjoyed line dancing with other seniors in Danville. She was an avid follower of politics at all levels. To help balance her life, she cultivated diverse friendships and her interests in nature, art, books and her cats. Ann had recently committed to volunteer in her time and talents with the Ephraim McDowell Hospitals "Made with Care" Program in Danville.
Ann will be remembered as a strong woman, loving mother, grandmother and aunt, compassionate professional, loyal friend and engaged citizen. She is described as a "sparkle" in the lives of the people she knew and loved.
Funeral Information
Visitation will be 5-8 pm, Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am, Friday, May 11, 2012.
Donations Information
In honor of Ann's life and legacy, donations may be made in her name to the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program and/or to your county's Animal Humane Association.
