The details of the accident are not obtainable, but it is surmised that he was walking on top of the cars while the train was in motion, as the message stated that he fell between the cars. One leg was severed and the other badly mangled that amputation was necessary.
The accident occurred near Mt. Ida, which is in Anderson county near Garnett and Mr. Johnson was taken to Garnett, where he was given attention by the company's surgeons. However, he could not withstand the shock of the injury and the resultant amputation, and passed away at mid-night.
The remains are expected to arrive from Garnett Saturday evening. Although the arrangements have not been completed, it is thought that the funeral services will be held some time Sunday.
Mr. Johnson leaves a widow and three sons, aged 8, 10 and 12 years, to mourn his untimely departure. He was 37 years of age and was quite well known around, the city, having driven a dray for J. Bouhly before going onto the raiiroad. He first worked on the Iron Mountain division and had only been running north between here and Osawatomie for about a month."
