He served in the Navy during World War II, also as a cook. Subsequently he was employed by the Narcotic Farm on Newtown Pike in Lexington and finally by the Lexington Municipal Housing Project (now razed). He also worked as a vender for Turf Catering Company for whom he sold peanuts at University of Kentucky Basketball Games at Memorial Coliseum and for other local sporting venues.
He fathered two children; myself and my brother, William Dee (Billy) Fryer and had three grandchildren who were born after his death; DeONa Marie Stratton, Joseph Donald (Jodee) Stratton and Melissa Ann Fryer.
My father died unexpectedly at the early age of 59 on my 24th birthday.
