Donald Black - SALAMANCA - Donald M. Black, 74, of Salamanca died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2004) at his home. He was born Aug. 31, 1930 in Buffalo, the son of the late Alvin Joseph and Sophie J. (Fronckowiak) Black. A Salamanca resident for 18 years, Mr. Black had previously lived on Taylor Hollow Road for 23 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953, attaining the rank of Corporal.
Prior to his retirement in 1984, he had been employed as a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel.
He enjoyed woodworking, especially cabinetry, and loved his family. He will be sadly missed by his friend, Bruno Gideon of Toronto.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. (Schultz) Black, whom he married Feb. 6, 1954; two sons, Michael Black of Wiesbaden, Germany, and Daniel Black of Toronto, Calif.; one daughter, Jeanne Malngren of Allegany; two sisters, Christine Myer of Cattaraugus and Patricia Dahlke of Buffalo; one brother, Joseph Black of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Black.
Arrangements are by the Hills Funeral Chapel, Gowanda.
