Her father was a merchant sailing ship captain, Uriel Coffin, who sailed to such far off points as London, Jamaica, around the southern horn of South America to Honolulu and even China, per his granddaughter Mary Coffin Brooks book "Memories of Eighty Years". She was born in Nantucket, but moved to Chatham County NY after her parents gave up the Nantucket sea life following Uriel's return to NYC with 13,000 hides of elephant seal hides obtained at Mocha Island and elsewhere (2 year voyage).

She married Isaac Lyon in NY, had her kids there and moved to Wisconsin, dying there.
