Bob was the oldest son of Johnie Gilmore and Anna Stuckey Stuchal. His early life was spent on the family farm with his brothers Jack and Bill and sisters Elsie and Elma. He attended Starcenter School and Harper High School. He was a very active member of Future Farmers of America and was a 4-H Member and Leader.
Bob's father passed away when Bob was sixteen. Bob had to shoulder the responsibility of providing for the family and running the farm with his brothers.
It was during WWII that Bob embarked on what would become his life vocation. He worked as a machinist at Boeing Aircraft. In 1953, he went to work for Ammann Manufacturing Company, Inc. and eventually he became a partner with Alvin Ammann in 1965. He and Alvin remained partners in business until they sold the shop and retired in August 1982.
Bob met Dorothy Winnegene Foster Bell in 1953 at a square dancing club. They were married on November 6, 1959. They shared their lives together for 26 years.
