Norberto Maestas, age 72 of Waco, TX, and originally of Santa Cruz, NM, passed peacefully on Wednesday January 20, 2010.
Norberto was a former electrical engineer and was raised in Santa Cruz where his family originates.
Norberto was born in Santa Cruz to the late Felix Maestas Jr. and Margaret Valdéz-Maestas.
The family was active at the Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, his mother a teacher at the Holy Cross School and him serving as an altar boy and attending the schools in Española.
Although he lived in Texas for 40 years and retired there his heart was back in Northern New Mexico where he fondly remembered hunting and fishing and enjoyable times spent with his family and friends.
Norberto was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Quintana and grandson, Gary Coburn Jr.
Norberto is survived by his five children, Pamela Bee of Garland, TX, Dennis Maestas of Allen, TX, Stephanie Matthews and her husband, Mark of Allen, TX, Joseph Maestas of Albuquerque and Monica Rose of Waco, TX, grandchildren, Ross, Gavin, Mallory and Natalie Maestas, Brandy Matthews, Nicki and Brian, Felicia and Christopher Maestas, and Amber, Merissa and Jeremy Rose, great-grandson, Jackson Maestas, sister, Barbara Gómez and her husband, Simon of Hernández and brother, Leonard Maestas and his wife, Lucille of Santa Fé.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Rivera Family Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Recitation of the rosary will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel at Rivera Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada with interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
