Mrs. Ailer Gilbert Girardeau, 86, of 29 Pine Ridge Drive, died at a local nursing home at l:20 a.m. yesterday after a long period of declining health and two months of serious illness.
Born in Greenville May 3, l877, she had spent her life here. Her parents were the late Monroe and Emma Rogers Gilbert.
Mrs. Girardeau was a member of Dunean Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, George Maurice Girardeau, died in l925.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Montez Kay of Greenville and Mrs. Mary McTindal; five sons, George M. Girardeau Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Haud Dacus, John Bohum, Samuel Gilbert and Wallace Edward Girardeau of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Mary Bryson of Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Hawthorne Gilbert of Greenville; 28 grandchildren, and 49 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at Dunean Presbyterian Church today at 4:30 p.m. by Rev. Charles Ferguson and Rev. Grady Hall. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Macon Kay, Alvin McMakin, and David, Frank, James and Joe Girardeau.
Honorary escort will be the Gladys Walkup Bible Class of the church.
The body is at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. It will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.
