Obituary for James Elmer Ivey (Lebanon)
James Elmer Ivey, son of Lawrence E. and Hazel Marie Harrill Ivey, was born June 14, 1937, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, September 18, 2019, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, three months, and four days.
On July 31, 1971, he was united in marriage to Barbara Helen Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara, on February 27, 2014; a brother, Bob Ivey; and a sister, Betty Allen.
James is survived by one daughter, Kim Ivey, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two sons, James K. Ivey, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Kevin Ivey, and his wife, Paulette, of Pleasant Hope, Missouri; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom Ivey, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area. He then moved to Kernersville, North Carolina. After he and Barbara were married, they continued to make their home in North Carolina. James had a long career as a professional truck driver for the Roadway Corporation, and was awarded for his distinguished service of one million safe miles. After retiring, James and Barbara moved back to Lebanon.
He enjoyed driving his golf cart with his two dogs, “Cassie” and Charlie”. He loved watching the NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt on television each evening. He was a true gentleman that was always kind and never met a stranger. He liked meeting his friends for coffee and hearing the latest gossip and news. During his trucking days, he was known by his C.B. handle of “Poison Ivy”. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his family.
James was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his eighty-two years.
