Delilah “Lila” Imojean Butler

79, of Lapel, Indiana passed away on November 28, 2017. She was born on April 16, 1938 in Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana to the late Delvin and Fay Needham. During her childhood, she moved around a lot with her parents and 8 other siblings as migrant farmers all around the US, but then always came back to their home in Arkansas. Lila worked as a food demonstrator at Sam’s Wholesale Club on 96th Street for 18 years.

Lila loved to sing and dance, and just enjoyed music in general. When she was younger, she would sing church hymns with her sisters on the radio in Arkansas. And when she was older, she would play the guitar and piano by ear. Lila also loved being outdoors, especially when she got to go back to Arkansas and camp with her family. She also had a competitive streak in her and loved to play board games, Yahtzee, dominos, bingo, and Atari (where she would move around so much, you would have thought that she was the controller herself). Lila also liked cooking, and teaching her sons how to cook. She could make any simple meal into a banquet, especially her Christmas Ham.

But most importantly, Lila loved her family! She married the love of her life, Sid Butler, Jr. Sid knew from the first moment that he saw her that he was going to marry her, and on January 19, 1973, she became his whole world. Lila was kind and gentle, always willing to turn the other cheek. She was a great listener and put everyone before her. Lila had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She loved Christmas time and watching everyone enjoy opening up their presents, one at a time, Lila relished in her family’s comradery and their teasing of one another.

Lila is survived by her husband, Sid Butler Jr.; sons, Tonnie (Jackie) Addison, Michael (Rebecca) Addison, Aaron (January) Butler, and Sid “Pete” (Jody) Butler III; grandchildren, Wayne Addison, Sean Roberts, Trevor Roberts, Morgan Addison, Ciarra Hagan, Dekota McCallister, Mirah Jackson, Brooks Butler, Harper Butler, Collins Butler, Tori Butler, and Brody Bryant; 4 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Robert Needham, Betty Witcher, Wanda Smith, Freda Boyle; and lots of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents mentioned above, along with her siblings, Ardale Needham, Leon Needham, Leona Harris, and Ova Needham.

Services will be at 12pm on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 504 W. Ninth Street, Anderson, with visitation from 10am until the start of the service. Burial to follow at Grovelawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Indiana
