Born in Olla, LA - Parents were John R. Cupples and Mary Ann Elder; married Samantha Allafair Bass in Olla.
Known as "Uncle Pate" - he was a Methodist preacher - a circuit rider who traveled from church to church in a white suit on a white horse (according to memories of family). He died of senility in 1947, years after his wife died.
Children: James, Andrew, Mary E. (Clark-McManus), Viola, James Wiley, Annie Jane, Ellen, Allen, Carroll, Vina, Letha Ann, Eunice, John Paulie, and Lois. (Two sets of twins.)

Funeral services for Rev. Wiley P. Cupples, age 86, who died Jan. 25, at 11:00 P.M. at his daughter's residence, Mrs. Onie Barnett of Clarks were held January 27, at 2:00 P.M., at the Little Chickasaw Church with Rev. Wills of Olla officiating.

He is survived by eight daughters: Mrs. Mary McManus, West Monroe; Mrs. Viola Brown, Hebert; Mrs. Onie Barnette, Clarks; Mrs. Ellen Whittington, Clarks; Mrs. Vina Rogers, Clarks; Mrs. Leetha Anderson, West Monroe; Mrs. Eunice Whittington, Olla; Mrs. Lois Hempel, Monroe. Four sons: A. P. Cupples, Olla; W. R. Cupples, Monroe; M. C. Cupples, Olla; J. P. Cupples, Goodpine.

Interment took place in the Little Chickasaw Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia, La.

Pallbearers: Willie Cupples, James Cupples, Louis Brister, Lawrence Rogers, Warren Rogers, Glover Poole.
