Scott Leroy Barnhart loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019 at his home in Independence, Kansas at the age of 57.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas. Military Rites will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel.Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2019 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorials to Amy Barnhart and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com

Scott Leroy Barnhart was born December 10, 1961 to Gerald A. Barnhart and Charlotte A. Scott – Schimdt. Scott grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from Independence High School in 1980. Scott attended Independence Community College.

Scott entered the United States Marines and served from 1980 to 1987. On June 29, 1982 Scott married his high school sweetheart Amy Wilson. The couple have made their home in Independence, Kansas. Scott worked at Dr. Pepper, Artic-Ice, Montgomery County Public Works Department before taking over as the Montgomery County Zoning Director and Environmental Health Director. Scott loved Lab Dog Competitions with his favorite hunting dog Maggie, fishing, hunting, cattle, and training hunting dogs. Scott was a member of the First Baptist Church, National Upland Classic Organization. He coached recreation baseball for over 25 years and was past president of the Independence Wrestling Club along with coaching for many years.

Survivors include his wife Amy L. of the home; two sons Matt & wife Meagan Barnhart of Lake Park, Iowa and Travis and wife Amy E. Barnhart of Independence, Kansas; his father Gerald and wife Delores Barnhart of Independence, Kansas; his mother Charlotte and husband Henry Scott-Schimdt Independence, Kansas; two sisters Liz & husband Wilbur Schwatken Jr. of Sycamore, Kansas and Karen and husband Ron Davis of Cherryvale, Kansas; Five grandchildren Bowden, Bella, Paxton, Presley and one on the way; nieces and nephews Terran Dean and family of Cherryvale, Taiylor Blanck of Manhattan, Kansas and Sarah Schwatken of Sycamore; Drew Wilson of Jonestown, PA and, Maggie Wilson of Waco, Texas.
