Robert D. Johns, 61, a longtime Santa Rosa resident, died Monday in a Santa Rosa hospital following a brief illness. A native of Mount Carmel, Ill., he lived In Sonoma County for 35 years, moving from Medford, Ore. He was a financial computer consultant for seven years and founder of the IBM User Group of the Redwoods. He was a boating enthusiast and taught safe boating for many years. He was past commodore of the Santa Rosa Boat Club. Johns also was a member of the Santa Rosa Masons, Scottish Rite and Moose Lodge. He was treasurer of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Irene Johns, Santa Rosa; son, Larry D. Johns, Santa Rosa, and by many nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no services. Inurnment was private. The family suggests memorial contributions to a favorite charity. Eggen & Lance Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
