Orphaned in 1865 at the age of 3 she, her twin sister and her elder sister were split among three families. She was raised by Rev. Dinsmore Austin and his wife, Emily C. Gould, who suffered from poor health. Mrs. Austin died soon after their move to Iowa in 1869.

Obituaries. Mrs. Edna Laub, Denison
Mrs. Edna Goodspeed Laub was born at Montgomery, Vermont on September 19, 1862 and died at her home 1421 Broadway, Denison, on December 16, 1946, having reached the advanced age of 84 years, 2 months and 27 days.
Mrs. Laub had lived in Denison for 65 years. Previous to that time she had resided in several other communities. Early in life she was taken into the family of the Rev. Dinsmore Austin, a Methodist minister, and made her home with the Austin family until her marriage to William Henry Laub, which took place in the old Methodist parsonage on December 6, 1883. The newlywed couple moved into the home on Broadway where Mrs. Laub continued to live for the remainder of her life.
She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now known as the University of Northern Iowa) at Cedar Falls. Mrs. Laub was a member of the PEO, the Eastern Star, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Women's Club of Denison. At the time of her death she held the honor of being the senior member of the Denison Methodist Church. She was received into the Denison Methodist Church by letter in September 1881, holding continuous membership in this church for over 65 years. Mr. Laub preceded her in death on August 4, 1935.
She is survived by the following children: William Austin Laub of Denison, Hazel Laub Skinner of Wilmette and Harold Goodspeed Laub of Pasadena. There are four grandchildren, namely: one granddaughter of Denison, William Murray Laub of Berkeley, California, Frederick Allen Skinner of Wilmette, Illinois and another granddaughter of Wilmette.
Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Church in Denison Wednesday with the Rev. Floyd Aubrey Smith, Minister of the Church, in charge, assisted by the Reverend J.D. Curzon, Rector of the local Episcopal Church.
Pallbearers were Dr. J.C. Robinson, Owen Rumble, E.L. Barber, Eldor Lehfeldt, Hugo Gebert, and Dr. R.P. Plimpton. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery.
