Hazel Adair Bates, 88, daughter of Winifred Kiser and Thomas Cruson, was born May 20, 1919, at Houston. She died June 26, 2007.

She married Thurman Barton Feb. 3, 1940. They had one son.

She married Herman Bates Aug. 1, 1942. They had five children.

Mrs. Bates attended a one-room school at Gladden near Success.

She lived the majority of her life in the Licking area and was an active member of the Licking Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bates; and son, Gary Barton
Surviving are her daughters, Carole Arms of Houston, Sharon Posten of Richland and Marsha Haley of Lebanon; sons, Bill Bates of Houston and Ricky Bates of Richland; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Services were June 29 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Meade officiating. Burial was in the Licking City Cemetery.
