Donna Lande, age 78, of Story City, Iowa, formerly of Thompson, Iowa, died at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.

Donna was born on August 14, 1941, the daughter of Arnold and Ida (Asmus) Lande. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1959.

Following graduation, she began working at the Buffalo Center Hospital. The highlight of her day was the time she spent in the maternity ward and she had a natural gift for helping mother and baby. When the hospital closed in 1982, she accepted the position of head cook at the Thompson Community School until her retirement.

She loved talking with the kids going through the lunch line and she was known for her cinnamon rolls served with chili.

Donna was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center.

Donna's talent and meticulous nature was evident in her many hobbies: hardanger embroidery, crocheting, beading, her beautiful flower gardens, and many others. She was known for her decorated cakes and cookies. Having grown up on a farm, she had a love for animals. Her beloved Holly, a miniature schnauzer, was her constant companion.

She cherished her niece and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. They were the light of her life and she was always quick to share pictures and stories about them.

Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law Lowell and Beci Lande of Story City; niece Brooke (Shannon) Cates of Bell Buckle, Tennessee; nephew Adam (Jayne) Lande of Story City; nephew Matt (Cris) Lande of Boone; great nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
