Born to John Jeptha Griswold (1822-1900) & his second wife, Sarah Elizabeth Shell Griswold(1838-1882), both of Georgia, who married on Dec. 23, 1856, in Pike County, AL. John had previously married Matilda C. Braswell on Dec. 26, 1848, in Pike County, AL. Matilda died between 1851 and 1856.

Mattie married Robert Allen Moore (1853-1932) on Dec. 20, 1881, in Bullock County, Alabama. Their children included two sets of twins!

Six children lived to maturity:
• James Jefferson Moore (1882-1960; twin to Jennie)
• Sally Virginia "Jennie" Moore Graham (1882-1975; twin to James)
• Ida Miranda Moore Wood (1885-1937)
• Billie Lee Moore (1887-1918; twin to Thye)
• Thye Wesley Moore (1887-1973; twin to Billie)
• Bishop Marvin Moore (1891-1977)
