Francis Zaleta was born in Topola, Poland. His father was Albert (Wajciech) Zaleta and his mother was Frances (Wojdyla). His mother Frances (Wojdyla) passed away in 1894 and his father married Frances (Nowicki). His full siblings are Martha Benna, Marie Gralak, and Joseph Zaleta.

Frank Zaleta and Anna Zmuda were married on 25 May 1914 in West Hammond, Cook County, Illinois. Together they had six children; Lillian, Clarence, Helen, Gertrude, George, and Dolores.

His first job was at a Hammond department store earning $15 per week. During their long marriage he held jobs as a railroad switchman, and a Calumet City fire-fighter.

The 1930 census states that he came to America in 1892, and at that time he was a butcher at a private market.

The 1940 census states that he was a water engineer at the Calumet City pumping station.

He was a retired millwright at Blau-Knox in East Chicago at the time of his death. His home address was 37 Pulaski Road, Calumet City, Illinois.

Frank Zaleta passed away in St. Margaret Hospital, Hammond, Indiana after a one day stay from a heart attack. He was buried on March 21, 1963 at Holy Cross Cemetery beside his wife.
